The additional training will be a prerequisite to taking the ATP written, and is in addition to airline training programs. If regional (or other companies) require mins+ written, that's basically saying they're not paying for it.
I don't know where people get the idea that "regionals can't fill classes". Where are you getting this info? Maybe silver/eagle aren't filling classes, but I happen to know there's a line out the door for 100% full classes month after month where I work. A true shortage of qualified applicants will be evidenced on the regional side when they drop the ATP written requirement, and/or raise FO pay scales.

If it becomes too difficult to find qualified people, they would likely drop the ATP written requirement (since the new additional training is a prerequisite to taking your written), provide the new additional training, and provide you an opportunity to take the written test. Before the normal airline training begins.
This would amount to a large expense on airlines, however they would pretty much need to if no one can afford the new training to even get as far as taking their written.
Make sense?

Yes. Thanks for the information. It is going to be interesting to see who is left standing (if any regional) after everything coming down the pipe takes effect.(BMI, ATP, Pay, part 117 etc.). I just hope i have a real shot at a regional with two busts on my record.(Not the CFI)

I wouldn't worry about two checkride failures unless they're recent 135/121. I know for a fact that eagle was taking guys with that last year, and my company isn't much different. The bmi thing isn't going to happen in a hurry, that'll be in the works for a few years I think.
There is yet to be any real pilot shortage. The solution to that happening is consolidation of this side of the industry. Rj's are getting bigger, and companies are merging. This way, the growing companies are taking the slack from the shrinking ones. The hiring wave beginning is just backlog from the last 8 years, so there should be plenty of movement in the coming times. I wouldn't be too worried about finding a regional job provided you have the necessary credentials.

Help me understand. Did mesa just tell everyone they're hired? There's no communication from the company or recruiter after this point. If you said ok to Feb class, I'd expect some pool letter or something indicating their intent. Ready to get going but process seems lofty. Are classes created and assigned overnight? Dunno.

The last few were 30,40,29,20, and there's another 40 class coming. The changes in #s is due to sim slot availability. Not to mention, no e175 new hire classes have begun yet.
