If you want to see the most incompetently run and most wasteful use of of taxpayer funds, look no further than the MTA and Port Authority of NY/NJ. If they were private entities run with any hint of accountability, they would have been bankrupt and out of business many years ago. Instead, we have the bloated, corrupt mess we see today.

Maybe I'm just bitter because I'm extorted to the tune of $1500+ a year to pay for this crap.

Won't argue with you on that one. I think the same could be said for every transit agency in the US. Some better than others. I personally think New Jersey Transit is the worst.
