Default Delta seeks to buy 30 RJs

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

NEW YORK, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc. (DALRQ.PK: Quote, Profile , Research) asked a U.S. bankruptcy court on Thursday for permission to buy 30 regional jets with an option to buy another 30 from Bombardier Inc. (BBDb.TO: Quote, Profile , Research).

The 76-seat CRJ900 jets are scheduled for delivery between September 2007 and February 2010, according to a court filing. The airliners on option would have delivery dates ranging from January 2008 through March 2009.

The regional jets will offer two classes and will primarily serve the No. 3 U.S. carrier's hubs in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Salt Lake City and New York, spokeswoman Betsy Talton said.

It would be nice if those were flown by Delta Air Lines Inc. pilots on the Delta seniority list.

Delta contract ammendable in January 2010. SCOPE, SCOPE, SCOPE. If you limit regionals to 70 seats, they are limited to the CRJ-700/EMB-170 size aircraft. By allowing those extra 6 seats, now you open the door to the CRJ-900/EMB-175.
70 SEATS NEEDS TO BE THE MAXIMUM FLOWN BY REGIONALS. NOT 71, 72, BUT 70!!!

Continental is limited to 50. That is great.
American is limited to 70. Good
United is limited to 70. Good

Northwest and Delta are at 76. That is too high. Next contract, (January 2010 for Delta and December 2011 for Northwest), Northwest and Delta pilots need to push for one of the following options:

Scope is the most important clause in these upcoming contract negotiations. If you are anyone from a fresh commercial pilot, to a CFI, to a regional FO, regional capt, mainline FO, or junior mainline capt, having a good scope policy will protect your job, allow you to upgrade faster, and ultimately lead to more money throughout your career. SCOPE, SCOPE, SCOPE!!!

Right on. Rolling back to 70 seats or less doesn't have to create a huge hardship for anyone...just remove 6 seats.

I believe United's scope is 66, and American's scope is 50, with a few exceptions for Eagle to fly their 70's. IE chatauqua and trans states are limited to 50.

The United CRJ-700 are fitted with 6 first and 60 coach seats. A row of seats taken out for economy plus. United's EMB-170's are fitted with 6 first and 64 coach seats. Again, a row of seats are taken out for economy plus. So I believe United is limited to 70, they just choose to fly the CRJ-700's with 66 for premium seats.

Thanks for the info about American. That is good to know.

Correct me if I am wrong, but was this not an arguement when the 70 seat clause came out. The "cry" was for no more than 50. Now we are crying for no more than 76 seats. Let me predict the future. We will complain about 90seats. When we do, we will say that it should be limited to 76 seats.

Personally, I think it should be 50 seats, across the board.

First it was only turboprops. Then it was 50 seats or less. Now its 70 seats. As the industry evolve even more, next year you guys will be saying ok 90 seats or less. I think ALL AIRPLANES should be flown by mainline. Where you start is where you end up. Wouldn't that be nice.
