I have version 6 on my Mac and ios device and pay nothing a month after my initial purchase 2 years ago. Only drawback is I have to sync now via wifi, which isnt a big deal since Coradine has zero interest in turning cloud sync back on for version 6.

Version 7 has cloud sync but now its $50 a month if I want the ios program. I'll save the $50 and wifi sync it myself with my paid for version 6. Remember, its $50 now for the ios program, what will it be in 3 years? 5 years? Pandora's box, be careful if you open it.

I think you meant $50 a year?

I don't disagree with your logic, but you could find yourself in a position I was in. I had been using version 4 for years because it had been working fine, and the new features didn't really appeal to me. When Mavericks came out, version 4 no longer worked, so I had to keep a bootable drive with Lion just to maintain my logbook, and eventually the Wifi sync stopped working. I would have done something a year or two ago, but 6 had been out for a while and I didn't want to buy it only to have a new version be released shortly after. Finally 7 (or X as it's now called) came out, with this new pricing model. Do I like it? Absolutely not! Will I pay next year at full price? I dont know. But at $35 it was worth the upgrade from where I was, and pushes off the decision of switching or not at least until next year. I can say I downlaoded mccPilotlog to all my devices, and it's still locked up on my iPad, so it's got a long way to go to be a viable replacement for me.

Btw, upgrading from 4 wasn't easy. I had to send my logbook file to a friend with 6, he converted it to a 6 file, and sent it back to me for importing into X.

Long story short, sticking with 6 will work for now, but not forever. Eventually an unsupported version will become obsolete in the Mac OS.

Oooops. Yup, a year.

And yeah, I realize that 6 will one day become junk. When that day comes, I will see what the options and prices are and make a decision at that ime.

How would you sync ios 6 and Mac 7?

Things have kind of quieted down on the logten pro X debate. Are people happy with the new price point??

To me it's still over priced at $49.99/yr. I think the first year price of $34.99 is fair.

Even though they alienated a lot of their clients it's brilliant to over price it to start and then lower it a little bit. We all think about the $69.99 price and then $49.99 doesn't sound so bad. I bet even if they started out at $49.99 there would've been an up roar. I don't blame them for trying to make some $$$. That's the American way. I guess we all gotta decide what it's worth to us.

My prediction is if enough people sign up the current price point holds. If not enough sign up the $34.99 first year price point becomes the price point even after year 1 is up.

The 34.99 is a fair price per year for me... $50 still seems like money grab.

If anyone is considering it - get the stuff for free NOW! Save yourself $90 and $20 on the program and app.

Ahhh, just like a boardwalk salesman..."Act now, and save!"

Its not for free now. You pay for the ios system and will every year. You will have to pay whatever Coradine decides is necessary to make their business work. They changed their business model and pay system already, why would/should anyone believe they wont again? Now, I do believe they have the right to charge whatever they want, and the market will decide if the fail or not.

I for one will not be pressured by a random "buy before" date into dropping good money after I already dropped $150 a year ago for 6.

Fool me once.....fool me twice...

He's actually correct. In either case, having the iOS and syncing ability, will cost $50 per year. If you buy it now, before the 8th, you will not have to buy each of the apps on top of the yearly fee. The Mac version is completely free, i just downloaded it and uploaded my old logbook from an older version of Logten. After the 8th, you have to pay for each upfront and then again yearly. I guess that's their way of getting the other $20 per month. It's a much better deal right now. Also, you don't have to continue the subscription. You can stop at anytime and continue to use the Mac version free.

Ok here we go. I have to stand up for these guys and tell the truth about both LTP and their pricing models.

First, Coradine has always had excellent customer service. They may not have always given you the features you wanted but the software works great and if you have a hiccup, it usually only takes an email to get it fixed. (I have over 10K hours logged leg by leg in great detail with airports all over the world)

Second, I hear a lot of *****ing about the price of the software. Personally I don't think it was that much to ask for a small company. Some of you even admitted that their customer base is very low. Let's face it, they aren't selling software to gamers that number in the millions. I bet their customer base is in the thousands. Good software takes time and money to produce. I am willing to bet most of the *****ing comes from guys who have NEVER run a company.

Third. I for one find it ironic that someone can in one sentence say the price is outrageous and unacceptable to ask a poor regional pilot to pay those prices and in the second sentence admit that they are using said program on an iPhone 6 which is at least $200 plus an average of $80 to $100 per month. Total cost of said iPhone......MINIMUM $1160/year!....and then sync it with a Macbook which is at least $899. If you are on a budget....buy an old clam phone and claim to be retro!

In all fairness, I have been frustrated with LTP a few times as well but it has always been much better than the alternative. I have never had to wait more than a day for an email response and if that didn't work, they would get a copy of my logbook and fix it for me. I hope none of you need Adobe Photoshop.....which is going to a subscription model of pricing.

I guess I am in the minority here because I want Coradine to be successful and continue to grow. That way they can offer more options in the future.

Rant over.....Flame away.

Well I was not using an electronic logbook before this, so $34.99 for a year of the native program and iOS sync-ability is quite a value.

I agree, however, that in the long term if Coradine decides to raise the price then we could be in a pickle.

I would pay the 34.99 now and keep the mac version forever. That is a smart investment.

But then again, I'm just a guy who vomits on request...

Being that you did not have to drop $150-$200 in the last year/2 like the majority of us, yeah, your entry cost is much lower than someone who did pay the $150-$200 for the package and now is being told to pony up mas dinero.

I do hate that the option has become "download the free Mac app and cancel the ios plan" that some are talking about. This will probably cause Coradine to now have to seek $$ by other means (charging now for the Mac version monthly). The ios syncing is the main reason to have an electronic logbook. Having to come home and log your trips into the computer is no different than having to come home and log it into the big brown book.
