Holy misquote, Grumble. Try it one more time. And after you realize you've misquoted me, then you can realize Gloopy was employing something we like to call "sarcasm."

Additionally, you realize that the article you copied says that sarcasm is "manifested chiefly by vocal inflections," and "sarcasm is present in the spoken word." So, is one just supposed to assume sarcasm when tone cannot be conveyed otherwise in written text?

Since we are pretending to be smart: adding quotation marks around a single word signifies irony or opposite of intended definition. So, what you are saying is he failed at his use of sarcasm.

(Great job pretending, BTW. Or is that "Pretending?"

I "never" pretend. I'm just plain "smart."

No. (Sorry, I'm being s-a-r-c-a-s-t-i-c.)
Okay, "smart" guy (your idea to use quotes there
.) He was being "ironic." I mean, ironic. You win.
Now back on topic.
I've seen incredibly outlandish things written here seriously that I could easily read as sarcasm. Sarcasm is verbal. In case that's confusing, that means it comes from your mouth. The author of the post was actually being ironic and trying to use a sarcastic tone as a vehicle to identify the irony. Since we can't tell tone in just words, it must be read as truth. There was no other way to tell that he was being ironic. Irony in the written word should carry some other kind of context.

I took the attitude out of it earlier. I thought you were calling most people on here not intelligent...which, in hindsight, I should have agreed with.
