I don't want to seem negative, but they have been saying this mass movement stuff since I started here... I'm still on reserve going on 8 months now...

It is frustrating, but in 4 months you will get a big raise. Things are slow right now, no doubt. It is a frustrating situation for all involved.

8 MONTHS??? My God!! Why does everyone think there is going to be a huge movement soon? Attrition? People getting ****ed that nothing is moving forward? I don't want to sit on reserve for 8 months! :(

BoilerUP 01-17-2007 05:44 AM

People have been sitting reserve for the last eight months because attrition has decreased. Hiring at majors/LCCs slowed down and people were waiting for the Midwest announcement to start sending out resumes. The only thing holding quite a few people back is the arbitration results...but every single CA I've flown with has his/her resume out.

Also, there are people leaving in the next couple weeks that weren't reflected on the latest resignation list on the AWF.

I was fortunate enough when I was hired that I didn't sit reserve NEARLY as long as some now...but attrition will increase during the spring. Will it equal late 2005/early 2006? I don't know. But people will be leaving in 2007 and there will be movement.

Should've gone to skywest! You could be flying a big crj for 19$/hr, but at least you wouldn't be on reserve! (insert sarcasm here _________)

I don't understand why we need to hire if there is any attrition. In the ORF F/O February bid packet there were 61 hard lines i believe. Currently I sit at about number 5 on reserve out of 22!!!! That is ridiculous! How is it finnancially efficient or responsible to pay reserves that literally go for a month or more without flying? I too am going on 8 months with the company... I'm not considering jumping ship, but this is getting really frustrating. My advice is to go elsewhere.

Flying gets reduced in the winter months and increases in the spring and early summer, right around Spring Break time. When Airways puts its summer schedule into effect, that should all but eliminate the overstaffing we've had this winter...and any attrition between now and then will need to be accounted for.

I did my PC with a captain that had flown two turns in three months. I flew a turn with a different CA the other day that had flown three turns in six weeks. Its not just FOs that are sitting...and the overstaffing won't last through spring.

I hate to keep sounding like a cheerleader because I know how much it sucks to be on reserve (especially as a commuter), but I really see stagnation as a short-term winter issue that will resolve itself come April (at the latest).

IMO

I have been sitting RSV in PHL for coming up on my year next month. RSV is not THAT bad here, being that 90% of the time you go on call at noon your first day and 90% of the time you are done by noon your last day. Pair that up with 5 (typically) day blocks, followed by either 3 or 4 days off, its not bad for the commute. I get really sick of hearing people that have been online for 3 weeks *****ing about how they are "sick" of RSV, suck it up or go somewhere else if its so much better there. Even though movement is slow RIGHT NOW, I agree with BoilerUP, EVERY SINGLE CAP that I have flown with that has the time to go somewhere either has interviewed, has a resume out, or is waiting for a class. Things WILL pick up, just be patient.
