IMO

I agree 100%. I was hired in August and I'm only about #8 on RSV in ORF. I've been "on line" since mid-Oct. and haven't been flying much since I got my 100 hrs in the a/c. I think there will be people moving on this spring as well. I have flown with 2 CA's since Dec. 1 just waiting on class dates (keeping in mind I've flown with about 4 CA's since Dec. 1).

Good luck guys, hang in there.

Im a new hire, not even started training yet and this is my first 121 job. all this stuff is new to me. The guys and gals that are sitting on reserve are only flying 1 or twice a month? J/W. Is there any base that is better than the other for a little more flying.

Also, what was the average reserve time when the attrition is good and people keep moving on? 3-4 months? or longer.

Sorry im asking so many ?'s I just want to be prepared and not be upset about not getting fly. I just want to know how its going to be. Thanks for all your responses.

I can't speak for the DCA or ORF guys, because I am a PHL FO on RSV. I fly in the neighborhood of on average of 50hrs a month. I started sitting reserve in May, and from then until now I have worked at least 1 day in a string of reserve days. Also in that time, I have broken guarantee (75hrs) 3 times. IMO being on reserve can mean a lot more time home then to be a junior line holder in PHL, in fact, most of the guys in my class bid RSV cuz they don't want to deal with the junior lines. On the other hand, I could have went to DCA a few months ago and could have been holding a line there since. I would not worry about RSV time, it really can change with the weather, in fact when I was hired it was "1-2 months max." On RSV you still get 12 days off, which is better than almost anywhere, and can be released on your last day at noon.

Ah, so naive... Once you get the job, the trick is to fly as little as possible and still get paid. Everyone knows that:D

On reserve? I beg to differ. 2-hour callout with a beeper isn't exactly a stellar QOL. You might as well go fly charter and make double the pay.

That may be typical in PHL, but definitely not here in ORF. Once you have your 100 hrs in ORF, don't plan on flying much at all.

I second that---I flew about 25 hours in Dec. (I have been on line since Oct.) and I am up to about 18 for Jan. It really doesn't matter because until you break the guarantee---you're basically working for per diem anyways. And I don't know about PHL but I know DCA/ORF FO's aren't breaking 75 hours, and if they do.... it is not happening every month.

I just read on flightinfo.com that someones heard the rumor that the next class will be postponed yet again until march... For the time being ill choose not to believe this as this will put me at 5 months and waiting for a class while in the pool!! Has anyone heard anything of this sort?

saab2000 01-19-2007 01:59 PM

I have not heard that, but we are overstaffed at the moment. Anything can happen.

Frankly, I think people in the pool should interview elsewhere unless they have a really good reason to come to AWAC. Not trying to sound negative. But remember, if you take something else and AWAC calls you can still come to AWAC unless you have some kind of contract which prevents it.

Things are a bit slow at the moment, but can turn around at any time. Things can change fast in this business.

I agree 100%... AWAC is a good company with a good contract, and good QOL. If that is what you want, and you don't mind waiting then more power to you. If you want to actually quit CFI, freight, whatever it is your doing (I was dying to quit my 135 freight job) then apply elsewhere and see what happens.

I haven't heard about the class being postponed to March, but I wouldn't doubt it with the current attrition/staffing situation. I think we have like 25 FO's on RSV in ORF..... which equals not a lot of flying.
