Best headsets for a CRJ

I fly CRJ-200's and recently my Clarity Alofts broke any recommendations for a new pair of headsets.

Bose A20 Aviation hands down! Worth every penny.

Don't they have pretty good customer service? Use some cheap headset until it has been fixed.

What broke in your Clarity's? For most things you can send them in and get them repaired or replaced for free.

when I stepped out of the flight deck I tripped and they got thrown in to the middle of the aisle and PAX stepped on them. They didn't even pick them up and give them back to me they walked right past me I tried to stop them in the plane but it was too crowded, when I got out in to the terminal I thought I could find him without going out of my way but in the busy DTW terminal that is hard . I will discuss with support and see what happens.

That is sickening... it is amazing how pax develop the stampede mentality once the deplaning begins.

I occasionally have to attempt to hold them up so I can make my exit to do the walkaround, often enlisting the FAs help.

THe majority of the time they do not slow down one bit and just keep coming like a slow moving zombie train. I can definitely see how your headsets would get run over and the pax not even know or care for that matter.

Just curious what you would have said had you caught him? "Hey, you stepped on my headset that I threw on the ground."

The stampede mentality develops because they've just flown on a CRJ 200.

Tacos 01-17-2015 11:33 AM

FWIW, I had the QC15 and UFlyMike combo, and I loved them. However, one day one of the ear pieces stopped working. They were only about a year and a half old. My biggest complaint with them was that they never seemed very durable from the start and headsets are used very harshly. I have decided that I will not get another pair. I think I am going to get the Clarity Aloft or Quiet Technologies Halo.

Yeah. Today's RJ passengers have forgotten what it was like to ride on, (or have never ridden on) the commuter aircraft of yester-year: B-1900, Jetscream, Shorts, Metroliner, Beech 99 or EMB-100, ("The Bandit"). They're a spoiled bunch.

Endeavor200 01-17-2015 12:46 PM

Clarity support is awesome!! They will send me pair of my old headsets for free! I just have to pay shipping!

Or any regional jet for that matters. Yes, that includes those Ejets.

Good to hear! They've always had great customer service and I'm a big fan.

David Clark hands down!! 10 years old and zero issues! I'm taking mine all the way to retirement:)

Ok, im going to say this is troll. Just my opinion.

"Thrown in to the middle of the aisle" is what set off my troll sensors.

OrionDriver 01-18-2015 06:09 AM

Is the cockpit of a CRJ so noisy that you need the ANC feature? I was thinking most guys would use a Telex 750 style - something light weight. That was just an assumption on my part - I have no clue <----Mil guy.

I use Lightspeed Zulu 2 for my current job flying the BE-200 and they are worth every penny!

makersmarc 01-18-2015 06:47 AM

I have seen a lot of guys use the Telex 750s with foam earplugs and the interphone volume turned all the way up. Poor man's noise cancellation.

DETSports 01-18-2015 06:51 AM

I recommend the Telex 850, doesn't take up a ton of space, fairly comfortable and not crazy expensive.

This for the win. Been doing it for years.

But then again, some of cities served by CRJ-200s and E-145s were served by DC-9s and 737-200s not too long ago...

azcz10 01-18-2015 07:25 AM

The RJ200 flight deck is not noisy at all. I have a Plaintronics' set that works well. If you're accustomed to having both ears covered it will be a bit scary the first time you use it. LOL! You'll hear noises with your other ear that you didn't know existed.

No, it is not noisy at all but you do use an intercom for crew communication unlike on the larger jets.

I use the QT Halo. Works great. The Clarity Aloft would also be great. With their in-ear design you get a lot better audio quality than with over-ear sets like the 750/850.

Jason5 01-18-2015 08:39 AM

Sennheiser HMEC 26-2 for anything that's a jet.

ftrflyboy 01-18-2015 09:15 AM

Bose and the U fly mic

I should have been a bit more specific by aisle I mean right infront of the FA seat.

Really? I tried this and the intercom wasn't nearly loud enough.

Papa Bear 01-19-2015 02:57 PM

I flew with Clark's for years lol...I know I know.
I went with the Bose and Fly Mic...it was awsome. They have a great payment plan so I think I was paying like 50$ a month. Funny thing however soon as I bought them I switched jobs and now if I were to wear a headset I probably would get funny looks.
Never dealt with Bose customer service so I have no comment on that.
I use my Bose now only for my commute so no one bothers me and they are awsome. I rarely get the "hey shouldn't you be up front or how are you going to fly from way back here".

mxaexm 01-19-2015 02:58 PM

Bose a20 but skip the bluetooth

Duksrule 01-20-2015 08:28 AM

This may be a dumb question but I will ask it anyway. Why would you buy Bose headphones then pay for a UFLYMIKE to turn them into a headset when you could just buy a Bose headset? Am I missing something? I have Bose A20s for my wife and I in our plane but wear Zulu2s at work. I wish I would have gotten Zulus for our personal use now. *** Bose is a leader in audio but can't make a headset that streams audio by BT.

When you have the UFLYMIKE set-up you can take it off and just use the QC15 like normal headphones. So if you're sitting at the airport or commuting in the back you're not using your A20s  to listen to music.

Endeavor200 01-20-2015 10:33 AM

For anyone who came to this wondering what headsets buy, the clarity alofts have always been good to me and like I said before there support is amazing!

Less than half the price?

I had the same problem, called Bose, and they replaced them even though they were 6 months over the warranty. I DEFINITELY didn't tell them what I was using them for.

I use the UFLYMIKE combo and absolutely LOVE IT.

BAD NEWS though... for starters, Mike of YOUFLYMIKE has died of gallbladder cancer. Secondly, Bose discontinued the QC15. The UFLYMIKE company is supposedly in good hands though and is developing a new product for the new QC25.

These are the CUSTOMERS that pay your salary. Give them a break. You're there to serve them!!

Oh. And just buy a Bose. You'll never regret it.

TheFly 01-20-2015 03:30 PM

I've seen everything from DCs to Telex 850s. Get something light weight but durable.

Used QC15's are going for cheap on the interwebs lately. A buddy of mine just picked some up on Amazon for 150 and they look brand new. They are getting a little more scarce since Bose stopped making them for the QC25. If you're on the fence I'd wait till uflymike comes out with his QC25 piece. Apparently the 25's will still put out audio when the batteries die unlike the 15's going crickets. Just my .02
