3+ years out in the "Real World" Not even an email from a major. What exactly am I doing wrong again? I finally got my call after I had given up on getting a job with a major. |

My best friend (white male) was hired at 26, and I (white male) was hired at 25.
The so called "affirmative action" hires are exceedingly few and far between. |

Periodically I hear the Affirmative action argument, and I am just curious! can you cite an example and with your citation was the candidate unqualified.
We didn't hire unqualified women, but women with published mins would get hired (500, 50ME) where guys normally had to have 1500+ and some King Air time to get hired. Not 121, but part 91, in 2011. |

My old part 91 job, we had the AA nazis all over us, because, surprise, surprise, surprise, a small oil company was 99% dudes if you didn't count secretaries.

Some dude on Jetcareers joined as a student pilot in 2003 and just got a class date at Delta. That's pretty good, less than 12 years from student pilot to major airline pilot.
Little prick. :). He's got some coffee/ice/papers he needed to get for a few years first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd love to hear more about these "AA Nazis" being "all over you." Who, exactly, were these strong-armed regulators, and how did they go about enforcing their will on your company? Did you actually have firsthand experience in managing this process, or are your stories a product of hearsay? Just curious about what was really going on.
We were getting notices of noncompliance from the Department of Labor. Where do you think all that data they ask about age, sex, race, ethnic groups at new hire training goes. We had a dedicated affirmative action manager at corporate headquarters in Houston. If your company hires 90% males, you need to more or less hire every qualified woman who applies and wants the job. We hired two women pilots with barely stated requirements and none of the not required but desired qualifications such as turbine time, ATP, King Air time, etc. |
Meanwhile a guy wouldn't get a call unless he had 1500+ hours and an ATP and time in type.
I was hired without an ATP, but also had aviation management experience that was a desired qualification. I had 4x the stated minimums and I still needed a couple of the desired qualifications to get a call. |
Wow, what about the guy that went from Endeavor FO all the way up to PSA FO in just 7 years?

I'm sorry but the ultimate winner was a United pilot in our jumpseat from LAX to SEA. He was upper 50s and a 747 CA. I inquired how long he had been at United which led to how old he was when he was hired. Turns out, this guy was hired at United Airlines at the age of 22 in 1978. He was furloughed for about 3 years or so in the 70s but other than that has had a great career. That's 35 yrs of service already and he still has another ~8 yrs left. He'll retire at 65 after having been at United for 43 years!
Guarantee his work experience is not the same as yours. |
