Years ago, a now retired colleague of mine interviewed at NWA, when, I believe, he was in his 40's.

Somehow, some way, he got hold of a copy of his processed application, and on it was either stamped or written, "Too Old".

He successfully sued, and was offered a job at NWA, which he then declined to stay with another carrier.

The point is, airlines, like all companies, are very wary about subjecting themselves to any kind of discrimination lawsuits these days.

On another note, AW&ST is running sister stories this week about pilots shortages both at the US regional airlines, and especially in Asia.

I'd say you're in pretty good shape.

Best of luck!

We actually hired someone that was 64. They hit 65 a month or two after training.

Although Airways back in 2008-2012 wouldn't hire pilots if they have been a Captain for more than 5 years. They figured they wouldn't be able to pass training.

Hired by two at the age of 43, in my class there were 4 older and 4 younger.

Republic hired a 64.5 year-old pilot in 2011.

Yes, 64 years, six months.

Edit: Ooops, Rahlifer beat me to it.

Virtually all of the Supplemental 121 Cargo carriers will hire you in the blink of an eye...

An airline would not be legally obligated to hire someone that old...it's reasonable to expect some sort of ROI for your training costs.

I heard DAL just hired a guy well over 60.

Thank you so much for the info. Knowing this puts me at ease with my chances to switch to a second career.

I entered ground school at 50 thinking I was going to stand out due to age, not even close, four above me including a 62 y/o ! Funny thing was, the most junior age wise washed out in sims, the second youngest pink slipped on the type ride, the 62 y/o breezed through lol
