Default RAH to grow much bigger by '08

http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/...ap3341089.html

Republic Airways Holdings Inc., a regional carrier for several major airlines, on Thursday said plans to grow its pilot work force by about 1,000 pilots by 2008.

Republic's three carriers - Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines (nasdaq: RJET - news - people ) and Shuttle America - all will add pilots.

Republic expects its current pilot roster of about 1,675 will grow to 2,600 by 2008.

Republic's carriers operate flights for American Airlines (nyse: AMR - news - people ), Continental Airlines (nyse: CAL - news - people ), Delta Air Lines (other-otc: DALRQ.PK - news - people ), United Airlines, U.S. Airways, and, beginning in March, Frontier Airlines (nasdaq: FRNT - news - people ).

Shares of Republic fell 45 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $17.90 during afternoon trading on the Nasdaq.

I read two different articles about this. One was a press release by Republic, the other was an article by either the AP or Reuters.

Seems logical. I have always liked Republic. They have a pretty decent pay scale. Good upgrade time (1.5 to 2.5 years). They are getting more flying from Continental, Frontier, and US Air. And they fly for 5 of the 6 major airlines. Growth is not really an issue.

So I went to check out their minimums. 1500/300. Are those correct?? If so, looks like they are going to have a hard time filling those 1,000 pilot slots.

1500/300 is a hard number, although you may get an interview with lower numbers but you'll be swimming in the pool until you hit the listed minimums. I have a friend working there that said he'd walk my resume in once I hit that number and not an hour sooner. Because of their minimums, they get a lot of current/previous 121 and 135 guys. So generally speaking, their pilot group tends to be more experienced compared to that of other regionals which are hiring guys will 500 hours total time and 25 multi.

My friend said RAH has quite a few people from places like Colgan, Piedmont, PSA, Mesa, et cetera.

They haven't had any problem yet...

They will now consider people that have 1000 TT and previous 121 experience. If you meet those qualifications you do not sit in the pool until you hit 1500.

Too bad they didn't do this a few months back when I was living in Indy 10 minutes from HQ, current qualified on the CRJ, a former intern, wanting to be based in Louisville, and was less than 50 short of 1500...

Where'd you get that info? I've got 1450 with current 121, update my resume every week, and still can't get the call!

I just came from a RAH interview, and the head of hiring said the only way she will look at you if don't have 1500/300, is under special circumstances. 121 being a huge factor. Now.... I don't know how long you should have been with your previous 121 or how much time you need for her to consider you with previous 121, but that is the rule she told us. She is busy interviewing especially with this announcement made, but that was all she told us.

I got it when I interviewed with a little over 1,000 TT.

I got an email from LB back in early September that said in part "send us a new resume ONLY when you hit 1500, and don't call us - we'll call you if interested". At the time I was 1450 total/500jet/400+ CRJ/former RAH intern/lived in IND, with three people in the training department and four line pilots offering LORs.

Let's just say I dearly missed Rosa...
