Phoenix Sky Harbor

Hey Guys,

Opportunities have arisen and I was wondering what job I should take. SkyWest or Mesa? I want to be based in Phoenix because my family has a vacation home in Scottsdale and I could just live there for free? Which airline would you pick based on: pay, QOL, and highest chance that the base stays open for the regional.

Thanks

What's the matter? The umpteen bajillion SkyWest and Mesa threads not good enough for ya?

Skywest future at PHX seems not the best. I've heard their contract is month to month right now. Mesa out of phoenix just got somewhat junior recently. If you are open to commuting I would say compass out of LAX honestly.

Really? Every Mesa FO that have spoken to says PHX is shrinking for them. Although I don't think that SkyWest or Mesa is going anywhere anytime soon, there isn't any growth for either in terms of the PHx domicile. Straight from MAG crew members, PHX is very difficult to obtain *right now. The same is true for SKW. With that being said, things change very rapidly and without notice, so it's a gamble either way.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with SKW. Pay, company reputation and pay.

My $.02

You'll undoubtedly make more money at SkyWest. That being said, my friends there took over a year to get Sky Harbor-based, and as was stated, their future there is uncertain. It could be argued that Phoenix's hub status itself is uncertain, but Parker has stated it will remain a hub for the foreseeable future, and Mesa would probably last longer between the two at least. I think holding Phoenix has been pretty consistent at 3-6 months for a while now. The LA flying we staffed out of PHX has gone away, but we seem to be getting slightly more of the California flying SkyWest was doing. Also, because of attrition/upgrades Phoenix is opening up to quite a few FO's in October. Of course, the game of musical chairs could always stop.

Fail.

Go to Mesa. With a doubt.

Yeah just very recently. They are sending about 27 IT's to phx in October. But that may be the last for a while. I honestly think you may get PHX based faster at Mesa but who knows really.
