Delta RFP's and Comair Contract
#1
I have been checking constantly for any word on how things panned out yesterday and am stumped as to why no one has said anything?
Anyone have any idea how Comair's contract situation panned out and what came of Delta's announcement?

I noticed while the judge did order a cooling off period, he did not say Comair could not strike. I believe a letter went out to ALPA from the Comair MEC that should mgmt impose cuts, they would strike come Feb. 9th. True story?

To me this just lends support to my belief that the whole RFP was a bunch of BS to scare Comair pilots into thinking their flying was going away.
If all this flying was awarded to SkyWest, CHQ, MESA, Colgan, BigSky, my friends mom, etc., then why haven't we heard about it yet.
Race to the bottom.

Pure speculation, but here it goes:
The Delta RFP would only have any real impact on three of their carriers: RAH, Mesa, and Comair. ASA/SKW are already under contract and none of their flying was up for grabs in this RFP. That doesn't mean they can't pick up extra flying, but they won't lose any either. The way I see it, this whole RFP was more of a management tactic towards Comair pilots during contract negotiations than anything else. Comair is a much more valuable asset left in tact then it would be if Delta simply moved their flying to some other carrier and dropped the company piece by piece. I also know that RAH did not bid for any CRJ flying (as stated by our CEO) so we're not going to "take" any of it. I guess that just leaves Mesa.
If I had to hazard a guess, I would speculate that you might see a minor shift in some flying (i.e. SKW getting 12 CRJ-700's) but no company is going to pick up the bulk of those 143 aircraft. When the dust settles, everyone will probably be doing the same amount of flying as they were before.
In a perfect world, RAH could get back all the flying it lost to Freedom out of MCO and my QOL would increase exponentially...but you know what they say about "want in one hand..."
Edit - If you see 10 145 XR's in SLC with "Operated by ExpressJet" on the side...my entire theory is null and void. However, I think that rumor is more of a cruel joke. Imagine the irony of SKW pilots complaining that XJT stole their flying

Neither side can take action until Feb 9. The judge basically extended the 32 day "stay" by another 8 days. A few interesting points to consider though is that Delta has a appointment infront of the judge on the 7th and I have heard from numerous places that the 7th is a big day in Big D's bk proceedings. In the transcripts of the hearing on the 1st, the Creditor Commitee rep even pushed to move the 8 day status quo earlier so as to have everything in place by their Feb 7 appointment. What might this entail...only they know. Maybe Comair is buying Delta and switching to an all Q400 fleet.
Another interesting point...I received, via US mail, the company's terms that they intended to impose on the 2nd. That package arrived in the mail on the 2nd. When was this packet printed? Mailed? In light of this, the company is waiting to impose their own terms. Their is no up side to their new "contract". No pay increases, nothing. They have no intention of negotiating in good faith.
Again, this should be a fun week.
