Commuting from ANC
Good evening!
I am in the process of applying to all regionals that have direct flights from a domicile to ANC. As of now I am looking at Compass, RAVN, Endeavor, and Horizon. I am not smart on every 121/135 carrier I could jumpseat on so I know there must be more domiciles available other than SEA, MSP, PDX. Any insight on 121 carriers that have domiciles with a direct connection to ANC would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Commuting to/from ANC is a nightmare. Find a job with an ANC base.

Using:
Anchorage Intl Airport (Anchorage, AK) PANC / ANC Flight Tracker ? FlightAware Flight Schedules http://www.pilotdomiciles.com/pilot_...-12-2-2015.png Should show you your options. I see DEN, SEA, ORD, and IAH right off the top. Doesn't look very good from ANC. Good luck! |
I just made the incredibly difficult decision to not commute from Juneau, and just arrived down in the lower 48 with all my stuff.
It's a different kind of nightmare, but I'll be back to live in AK... someday. A sad -Fox, Alaskan no longer. |
If you live in ANC, there's also PenAir and Empire. Last I checked, both are hiring.
|
I'd recommend NOT commuting and stay with an ANC domicile. Otherwise, you're better off moving to the lower 48.

Just bite the bullet and Move. Unless youre deeply rooted in Alaska.

I've been considering the same thing. And come to the same conclusions. I don't have any desire to live outside of Ak after my wife is done with grad school so that nixes commuting for me. Horizon may (or may not) be a risky bet right now, and by my calculations at the moment a pilot stands to make $10,000 more a year at Corvus. But with oil at rock bottom it's anyone's guess.

I knew some ANC commuters that did alright going to ORD by using Alaska Airlines or Atlas/FedEx
