Default America Eagle

Any one got any info on American Eagle? like junior base and if they are recalling any of your american pilots back and if it still looks like 8 years to upgrade? But mainly are you happy there? Are anyone new hires going to LAX and how long to switch? thanks

Latest that I just heard about Eagle is that they were scrounging to fill an upcoming class. Not too sure to what extent, but that's what I heard from a couple folks that have put in applications lately. (Doesn't really answer your questions, sorry, but thought I'd let you know.)

1900 Driver,

No recall anouncment yet, only the rumor of recalls in the spring of '06.
Most, but not all of the furloughed AA pilots got the chance to flowback to Eagle.

The Aug 1st class was 6 DFW Embraer & 2 LAX Saab, Aug 15th was 2 ORD Embraer, 4 DFW Saab, & 4 SJU ATR. The Aug 29th class is expected to be 8 ORD Embraer, 3 SJU ATR, & 4 LAX Saab. The Saab is very short staffed. Junior manning captains to fly right seat, esp at LAX, is very common these days.

While most may have had the chance to flow back, most chose not to and some of the furloughs did not have the 3,000TT required to do so. Flowbacks constitute only about 10% of the furloughed AA pilots.

Default What about MIA? Anyone getting sent down that way?

What about MIA? Anyone getting sent down that way? I am considering doing a program that will set me in with them. Anyone recommend RAA flight schools? What about flying for eagle in terms of where you will be based?

New hires do not get MIA. You need a year (it used to be more) to even transfer there from SJU.

While some schools do have an 'affiliation' I wonder how many grads they actually take as they only promise an interview. There were only 2 people in my new hire class that had come via programs and that's back when they were hiring in droves.

"What about flying for eagle in terms of where you will be based?"
Ummm...what does that mean exactly?

(BTW it's just "AE", not "AAE". We are owned of AMR like AA, but worlds apart...)

Default A more enlightened pilot

Well I suppose I should rephrase, "Where will I most likely end up even if I bid for MIA?"
Thanks for answering all of the questions.... i'm seriously considering doing a comparable program to direct track... I will get type rated in a CRJ-200.... even though they do not fly the 200.. will that matter at all? Or will I end up flying the saab anyhow?
Thanks again!

Where you will end up depends on your relative age in class. If you are young, you get the leftovers. The only way you could bid for MIA is to bid the ATR, which means that your initial choice needs to be SJU ATR. If you bid any jet or Saab slot, you will never get MIA as you can't go from those a/c back to the ATR and that is the only a/c based in MIA. You cannot bid between turboprops nor can you go 'down' to a turboprop once you awarded a jet F/O slot.

So, consider what a/c are based in which city carefully. If you are after a certain domicile, you need to bid an a/c type that is based there. As a newbie I was given the choice of ATR, ERJ & SF3 but knew that to get to LAX I needed to bid the junior a/c in that base, the Saab.
