You can find a microwave in pretty much every ops at every station..
But the hardest part & the most challenging part is finding the time to go & heat your food on a 29 min turn..
Almost all hotels have a microwave..
I am one of the guys who carries his lunch box with enough home cooked healthy food for 3 days & eat outside when we go out with the crew.
I usually carry 4 or 5 square containers.
1) Whole wheat / whole grain pasta cooked with lots of veggies..
2) Quinoa cooked with a lot of veggies
3) Veggie medleys, roasted, sautéed veggies, add some spices.
4) one box of salad with dressing, usually eat it first or 2nd day.
5) turkey / chicken sandwiches made whole grain bread & veggies
6) leftovers from the Barbeque or grill..
Never had a issue with food going bad...
When you get a fridge in a hotel, great, otherwise use ice in of the container that I empty on day 1...
Get a good lunch box, I use aerocoast, and freezer gels..
A little effort at home saves a lot of money and you get healthy food..

Since joining the 121 world I've lost 10% of my body weight and have managed to keep it off.

What I'll often do is join the crew at the sports bar but just have one beer or something. Dinner is later on or earlier, in the hotel room, but it's healthy and slimming. If you go out to restaurants and eat every night on a trip, you will gain 50 lbs in no time. I see all these 40+ BMI pilots waddling around the airport and I just wonder how they can still keep their medicals. Restaurant food will pack on the pounds at such an incredible rate, it's just not worth it.

Also eating regular meals at the airport doesn't break the bank. It's going out with your crew evey other day that does, especially drinks. I honestly gain more weight when I'm home because I eat less and really spend less when I'm on the road.

I'll prepare my own stuff as well. For example, the following doesn't need to be reheated. It's one of my favorite lunches:
• Chopped-up baby carrots
• Chopped-up red onions
• Cherry tomatoes
• Grilled walnuts (just throw 'em in a frying pan to brown them)
• Chopped-up celery
• Grilled chicken, nicely browned
• A little feta or blue cheese
• A little poppy-seed dressing
Throw that all together in a Tupperware container and you have a delicious lunch that'll last inside a cooler bag.
I avoid sandwiches like the plague (bread does nothing good to your waistline) and also avoid processed foods as much as possible.
I realize I sound like a quinoa-obsessed vegan health food nut...which I'm not. I just can't eat the processed, salt-laden, fat-overloaded c**p that passes for airport food or restaurant food nearly everywhere.

Oh come on, eating processed crackers and mistery meat sandwiches from walmart while locked in your room is not healthy. I understand it doesn't cost as much but don't say it's healthy, you're not getting proper nutrition no matter how many almonds or celery sticks you pop in you. Not to mention, you're nuking your food in that microwave, that's another issue.

I pack food but it's much better than that. Financial savings aside, you can pack homemade food that's healthier and you know what's in it.
Don't get me wrong, I like eating fried food and burgers, but you can't eat that for every meal expect to stay healthy.
