Live in MIA based in LGA? Parking? QoL?

Hi, all.

I just got hired on and have a class date in the beginning of September. I'm leaning towards requesting LGA as a base and commuting out of MIA, where I live.

I would very much appreciate any advice on the feasibility of the above. Also, does anyone know if parking is paid for at MIA? And lastly, as a new hire, how often could I realistically expect to be home. (I've got a baby on the way, and this is a bit of a concern.)

Anybody else doing something similar? How's the QoL?

Thanks in advance!

Plenty of us in the same boat. Going to bid for CMH, or whatever I can get. Wait out my time while waiting for IAH to be awarded. Two kids. Good luck!

QOL at RAH is probably tops among the Regionals. Parking at MIA will be paid up to what it would have cost them to supply you parking at LGA.

Parking in LGA costs the company $200 a month, so they will reimburse you as a commuter up to what it costs in your base to park ($200 in the case of LGA). I’m sure you can find something in MIA for $200. When you start email the parking people and they might be able to set you up with something down there.

My only thoughts are that Miami can be a pain to commute out of due to all the standbys they seem to have. If it's on our metal it won't be as bad since you get first rights to the jumpsuit unless someone else from RAH shows that is senior to you.

I've always kinda wondered this. Not to stray too far from the original topic, but FL is difficult to commute out of, unless it IS to JFK/LGA. Maybe ORD, if you look at passrider. Can anyone shed light on this?

I fly with quite a few Fo’s that commute out of FL from various cities. The common thread seems to be, if they can’t get on one of ours, jetBlue is the preferred carrier to jump on.

Thanks for the responses, all. I appreciate it!

How long does it take to hold maimi as a FO? What is the new hire date of the most junior FO?

Generally speaking MIA is not good for commuters. Also their gate agents are some of the worst in the entire country. Yes JetBlue is a viable option out of FLL but that would require you to drive up there and deal with parking or get dropped off. Spirit and Delta are hit and miss out of there. I would avoid anything involving JFK or Newark, adding ground transport is just going to complicate things even more.
