Default Republic Pilots Move to Base?

Has Anyone recently moved to base? I live In Georgia and I am considering moving to a base possibly CMH or Indy. I want to live in a rural area and be able to drive to work. Also looking for where I can move to with the possibility of day trips and such for normal work and for days off. Commuting from Savannah to LGA sucks

My initial award was CMH and I moved there. This both solved and created problems.

I had no desire to deal with roommates like I did in college so, I rented an apartment close to the airport. I had a nice place that was quiet when I needed it to be, but, moving sucks, and I had no connections there. I would take one or two trips a month to Texas to visit friends and family when I could receive several days off in a row (that was pretty easy to get). Doing these trips wasn't too bad because flights weren't packed like they are between major hubs. Still, this was a better option than crashpads and commuting.

Day trips, not so much. CMH has mostly 4 day trips, a few 3 and 5 day trips, but even fewer that are shorter than that. The only time I saw a day trip was on IOE.

Any ideas on other bases such as PHL and IND? Trip lengths? Early or late starts and finsihes and any QOL stuff?

Republic has mostly outstation bases, meaning show times are early morning (~6am), and finish times are late at night (~11pm). I'm describing CMH trips but the other bases are similar. In order to comply with duty and rest requirements, the trip pairings have to be 3 or 4 days.

QOL wise: The show times are early, so you'll have to get used to that. If you are going to commute in, you have to come in the day before your trip (or start of reserve), and go home the day after your trip ends. Some guys that live within a few hours drive chose to do it that way. As I mentioned I bid the option "I want to have a single 6 day off block" to maximize the days off to commute time ratio.

Is this true for the hubs too in terms of show times? Thinking of trying for ORD or PHL

Those two bases have more commutable trips but also a much higher cost of living. I’d say IAH and IND would be better choices if you’re looking for more rural living and affordability. No state income tax in Texas so that’s a 10-20% pay raise right there. Just a casual glance at the trips a little while ago showed quite a few day trips.

As far as show times, I'm not too sure. But there's definitely more commuting opportunities out of the large hubs...ORD, PHL, MIA, IAH, LGA, EWR.

Thanks for the info. Hubs are one hop commutes for me with ORD being fairly the easiest. First flight in at 0915 and last flight home is 2100. I would think that allows for same day commuting.

Whoa, where do you live if you pay 10-20% in state income tax...?
