I started at Republic at 28. It came down to money over the course of my career. Going to a legacy or a LCC is a big bump in pay

Not to hijack the thread, but to my understanding, it’s about a 12 month wait to get MIA as a FO. Is that accurate? Also, how long until An FO can hold MIA as a CA?

The junior bidding CA at MIA is an August 2016 hire, while the junior CA I believe is a November 2016 hire, so not quite 3 years to hold MIA as a CA, and if you took the first available upgrade, as of right now it would take you about 3-4 months to get to MIA once you upgraded.
Of course, this will all change for a new hire on property right now by the time things like upgrade roll around.

Hey all, long-time lurker and first time poster here!
I'm a KC native and probably 2-4 years from from 1500 hrs depending on if and how aggressively I approach a career change to becoming a pilot. Still working through ratings...but considering ramping things up...
I went into this thinking I definitely only want to fly charter/fractional, but I've lately been considering the airline route.

And how quickly you do that is important because seniority is EVERYTHING in quality of life AND pay (not necessarily synonymous) in the airline world and the legacy airlines are starting to retire large numbers due to the age 65 cutoff for airline flying.
Those numbers will continue for quite awhile but (depending on the individual airline) they will PEAK in the 2022 to 2025 timeframe.
You are going to be spending a minimum of three years at a regional to be competitive for an upper tier major and two for a second tier major. The closer your hire date can be to the peak of those retirements (if not before it) the better your QOL and pay is going to be. The fewer people hired behind you, the worse your pay and QOL is going to be. It's as simple as that.

The junior bidding FO in MIA is a late July 2018 hire, so more like 9 months at the moment. Not sure how long they've been there.

Depends on when you finish sims (checkride) within your class. If you’re on the front end of your class, maybe a couple weeks at longest. If you’re one on the last to finish sims, then it could be s month. Upgrades have really slowed down, so I wouldn’t expect long sits after sims.
