So is anyone getting IAH as a new hire base?

No. It will take 8-10 months to award, effective 4 months after that. If you're lucky, they might let you move a month or two early. That's what happened to me. I was sitting in IAH 9 months after DOH. I wouldn't say that's the norm, though. Expect a year before you can get there.

Did your class form study groups? One of my biggest worries about training is studying alone, if I have to study myself, it seems like it takes forever until I'm proficient. I do way better in group settings.

The advice you'll hear over and over is not to lone wolf it.
Your class will form study groups, it's what happens naturally

This! Take it from somebody who learned the hard way!

What kind of limitations should I study? Obviously the big ones like airspeeds, weights, altitudes. But do I need to know stuff like temperature limitations?

Boldface and italicized. Also, keep in mind, you are taking a FAA Part 121 Type Rating evaluation. Your familiarity of the aircraft extends outside minimum aircraft knowledge requirements. For example, Autopilot engagement limitations are not boldfaced or italicized. Do you think it may be important on your evaluation to know when to engage or disengage the autopilot? So, while you may not be required to recite all limitations from memory, you will certainly be required to demonstrate knowledge of aircraft limitations while being evaluated.
