Default Phone Screening

Sent in an application yesterday and I've got a phone screening Monday. Anybody else do the phone screening?

Yes, I did. Your recruiter will call you to go over your application, flight hours, and ask a couple of basic HR questions. You’ll get called in for an in-person interview after the phone screening. Good luck!

Wouldn’t even really call it a screening. For me it was just 15 minutes of scheduling the interview and having the recruiter answer some of my questions about the company.

Just had my second phone conversation, and it seems like the goal line keeps moving. I’m an army helicopter pilot of 15 years, and I’ve been talking to their recruiting for almost a year. First, it was “apply when you have your CMEL.” Done - applied. Then the initial phone screening was “give us a call when you’re at 150 hours FW.” Now the second phone call was “well we’re really looking at 500 hours of FW time.” I was interested in, and asked about, the Flight Time Initiative (paying for the last 100 hours of FW) to get to the 250 FW, and the response was “that’s for guys wrapping up their 121 time.”

I’m confident there’s no flags in my resume or background, but must admit, I’m a bit perplexed at this process so far. Doesn’t seem like I’m getting the full story, or simply as markets change, so can requirements.

Anyone else experiencing similar communications?

I have your same background and was told to apply once I had my CMEL (already had 150 FW at that point), they sent me an email a few days later to schedule a call. On this call the recruiter answered a few questions I had, including any experience they've had with previous rotary pilots, in response to this he told me about the 500 FW preference but said that if you don't have it, your application will be sent to a review board after the interview. Compared to other airlines I've worked with, I've found the recruiting process to be off-putting and get the impression that they're not all that interested in RW pilots.

Thanks for the feedback. I can say, dealing with their initial recruiter, her information was passed on to me by a former Republic CA - and she (recruiter) was a pleasure to deal with and guide me in the process, communicating the necessary milestones. Recently, however, I was handed off to another gentleman, and he seems to lack the same enthusiasm for my prospects than the original recruiter. “Off-putting” accurately describes my impression of him.

We’re you at least able to establish an interview?

Yes, I scheduled my interview on that call. I don't have any issues with the individuals but it seems that they don't really communicate within the recruiting department.

That's about all I feel comfortable posting but feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. Especially if you were at Buehring when you created your account.

I agree - no issues with any personnel specifically, but as you experienced, there seems to be some communication inconsistencies in their process. But again, requirements can ebb and flow with the needs of the organization. I'm no stranger to that concept.
