Fifteen hundred guys and gals he will be stuck in lag behind for the rest of his career.

How did you become so risk averse? Did you go to one those elementary schools that didn’t let you play dodgeball at recess because you might get an owie?

Seen too many overconfident pilots left by the wayside when then blow a checkride and wonder why the call doesn’t come. If you’re young there is no huge rush. It cuts both ways. You have to place your bet. Didn’t say don’t do it, I said don’t factor the bonus it’s a drop in the bucket, and make sure you’re ready for it.

Seriously. Where in my statement do I mention anything about the bonus? I said nothing about the bonus. I think you have a reading comprehension problem when you ask an upgrade eligible guy with a CL-65 type rating if he has 121 jet time.

And for someone who was posting on the Cape Air forum nine months ago, you are sure trying to come across as the font of all aviation wisdom today talking about all the overconfident pilots you have seen. And seriously...

you are implying he’s so inept he not only won’t pass upgrade but will get an FAA violation attempting it? Just how poor a pilot do you assume he is? Or is this just how risk averse you are about upgrading?

The fact is that the guy is captain eligible and type rated in the CL-65, which GoJet flies and you clearly do not . You have no idea how much experience he has above and beyond 1000 hours of SIC and neither do I. Granted, every second in command hour you fly is more experience, but failing to upgrade when eligible also carries its own baggage for those not wishing to have Republic as their final employer. The majors like to see good career progression in their applicants.

so yeah, it really has nothing to do with the bonus money and never did. If he’s competent to upgrade now rather than 18 months out he OUGHT TO upgrade now rather than 18 months out. On the other hand, if he wants to be a regional lifer than clearly, delaying upgrade won’t hurt him a bit.

Sadly yes, the unfortunate result of multiple mergers and consolidations over the years, as I understand it. I think the junior lineholder has been on property something like 12 years.

Combined with its great commutability and the fact that it has had no growth over the past 5 years so there is absolutely no movement there on the CA side. A lot of lost decade pilots are based there that still have a decade plus before retirement and they have no intention on moving on anymore.

Read the original post. It references the bonus. I’m replying to the original poster not you. Nope no idea the experience level. Merely pointing out what someone should consider. You on the other hand, deep breaths.

Excuse me? Read your posting number 11. You are QUOTING my post. A little disingenuous to say you were responding to the original poster when you quote me.

take a few deep breaths yourself and stop pretending to an expertise you clearly don’t have.

DE Captain or FO republic then upgrade in 1.5 years? Which airline has better QOL as both are ORD base which I want. Thx

If you want ORD don’t even consider Republic. You’ll upgrade and never see it and be stuck commuting to NY or an outstation.

Although I would take ORD as an FO and commute to CA at Republic over having to deal with the low pay and QOL issues at Envoy, Air Wisconsin, TSA, and GoJet. 3rd year CA pay at Republic will more then make up commuting as a CA then being based at ORD getting $20 less an hour and worse QOL rules.

Agreed. Especially if you actually live in Chicagoland because Indy is still driveable if the flights truly go to ****.

There is no QOL substitute that can make up for driving to work. Keep in mind Indy is an outstation, most trips start early and end late. Taking more days away from home. But that’s your decision.

From personal experience tho, choosing to commute when there are plenty of other options is a terrible decision. If you don’t like those companies you listed above go to skywest.
