Anyone know if unemployment is an option to cover the reduction in hours?

Varies state by state. Some do since it’s a
significant reduction of income.

Quote: That’s $365 a week for an FO, or $146 a day for the 10 days, gross not net. All that to try and limp along until 3/31 and get laid off? I’d rather take a furlough. Unemployment is at least $400 a week.
They could always drive Uber or something as well. Can’t do that on unemployment.....not to mention keeping benefits is nice.

You'd rather take a furlough instead of keeping:
-Health insurance
-KCM/CASS
-Currency
-Travel benefits
-32.5MMG with the ability to pick up more flying?

Furlough makes no sense in my opinion. If the government is still paying the extra $600/week then it makes sense. Can’t see that going on for much longer if it hasn’t already stopped. My state only pays $175/week.

Well, that depends. How much are you and your family depending on those medical benefits? Are you going to take the reduced work time to use your travel benefits? It is different for everyone and every person has to think about their own circumstances. Plus most if not all states offer partial unemployment for non voluntary reduction in work hours.

Also keep in mind that none of this happens if congress passes payrol protection. If they do, things will progress much of the same way as they are now (probably some improvements in the new MOU). This is only worst case, where you would have been furloughed or downgraded any way. And if you have a sweet gig lined up that you would rather take, LOA will be offered.

I wonder how you can survive on that pay. I see the benefits of lowering the hours for the company, keeps the training costs down because you can just fly once or twice every 90 days and stay current, but how do you survive on that much? Can’t imagine there are a lot of flexible jobs to supplement income. Sounds like partial employment. Sorry guys. I would vote for furlough of it was me.

You’d vote to be fired with no pay and benefits versus partial pay and full benefits. I see.

I guess I thought the 82 hours was included in the 2015 CBA, so why change it. Also I would imagine being overstaffed by 1000 pilots, will not leave much open time for the average line pilots. Probably would only help union volunteers and maybe pilots in the training department. It was easy to credit 100 hours as a union volunteer when I was at YX.
