When you have a maintenance base, you know your airline will have in-house maintenance support at that station.
In a grand scheme of things, sure it doesn’t make a big difference. Also, if you are a commuter. You can except a lot of your metal to be pushed through maintenance bases.

Once you hit 1000 hour upgrades, what follows are unfilled upgrade vacancies. That is a terrible place to be as an airline. It means that you are losing captains faster than you can upgrade them.

Just as I predicted on here earlier this Spring. The way we were getting used post COVID it was easy to see that movement would happen fast sooner than later. 2500TT 1000 Part 121 SIC and you will upgrade.

Republic dug their own grave on this one. By closing 3 popular bases in the last year it caused people who would have stayed at RPA and either upgrade and get that TPIC time or wait for a call from a Legacy during this hiring wave to instead leave at the first opportunity to ACMIs, ULCCs, or even to Corporate.
