Bonuses are generally not strictly written out in a contract especially if it’s multiple years long. Pilots generally don’t like bonuses and would rather just have that money included in the pay rate.
That said contracts generally outline whether or not bonuses can be given or not and for what reasons and to who. It helps the company more than anything drive action towards something the company needs. Retention, new hires, upgrades etc.
Going along those line yes bonuses are allowed and basically at the full discretion of the company under the new contract.

Here too. I was done building time a couple decades ago. Just looking for a good QOL for the next decade or so. Fingers crossed my Nov. class date comes through. Best of luck to everyone waiting on a class date.

I have a captain upgrade question for everyone.
In the new contract there is language pertaining to pilots who bid reserve as a strategy, allowing them to have no-fly lines if they are willing to upgrade to captain... (I think I got it right).
What prevents the airline from:
1)Offering an upgrade bonus that requires FOs to sign up in advance thereby finding out who wants to become captain
2)Prioritizing less reserve and more flight hours to those new FOs who want to upgrade quicker?
Considering the shortage of captains, wouldn't that be a creative solution? Just a curious question, I have yet much to learn about the operations of the airline.
Best,
Nati

Hypothetically speaking:
What prevents any airline from prioritizing newer FOs who want to build time over those who want to bid reserve? Might the airline offer an early bonus to an FO to sign up in advance for a captain slot when that is available and upon reaching the required hours, and have that FO fly more after signing the captain upgrade agreement?
Just a newbie question..

This'll be somewhat redundant, I just wanted to try to explain it in a little more detail....
Not exactly. There's no caveat to the "no fly line". It's just based on seniority and only if the company wants to offer them for the month in questions. It doesn't specify that there are any min amount of those.
They are already doing that by offering first year CA pay to anyone with 850 hours + signs up for upgrade....
Seniority rules prevent this, that's why they had to start the no fly line as a method to allow this.
It would, but, you can't take that scheduling flexibility away from senior people because of the contract. Seniority is king in the airline industry.
