Hello, considering making the jump to Republic from 135. Question about bases, live in Orlando and would like to eventually end up in MIA. I know it will take a while so I would put down LGA or EWR since I have family up there. How does that work for me if I fly for UA and then AA? Meaning would I have to trade-in uniforms? Learn new res/ops systems? Benefits? Thanks
Nothing but minor differences in ops. One uniform regardless. You will be eligible for UA and AA benefits regardless of base / flying. Most bases support both so you can fly an AA trip on week, UA next. Currently MIA is only AA. From what i hear MCO - MIA is a nightmare commute we have a lot of MCO guys who rather commute to PHL. Some have even tried MIA only to switch back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What do you mean by base structure? Too many bases spread out over smaller cities, I.e a lot of commuting?
Those are my assessments not facts. It appears since I've been here we've realigned an average of 4 bases a year (displacements, closures, displacement vacancies, etc). So if you live in a current base, other than MCI or the western-most base you'll be pretty safe for a few years I expect (few= ~3) |

Speaking of commuting, what RAH base would be the easiest commute from ATL? I'm looking at passrider and seeing hourly flight to DCA, LGA, PHL, and EWR.
I'll be moving to DCA next summer but I'll be commuting until then. I'm just trying to find the easiest commute as possible. Thanks |

Thanks for the info. As for MIA I would move back down to avoid the commute. For the short term I can live in NYC with family. What base (EWR or LGA) has more open time flying? Which, of all the bases, can one max out hours and make some real money quick?
They are all the same, credit and open time wise. You can also pick up open time from any base but you are responsible to report to that base Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Is it possible to get ORD right out of training? If so how long would one expect to sit on reserve?

Does anyone know if their going to close the CMH base? Whats the chances you can get CMH out of training?

I think CMH and MCI are on borrowed time. I expect them both to close in 2-3 years. I wouldn't pick RAH for a base unless it were IND, PHL or NYC area.
That said, who knows? Basing decision criteria are not communicated to crews until your base closes. This company is very east coast and midwest centric. All I can really say is don't expect to cross the Mississippi much. |
