Reading the article, Spicejet has had recent beverage induced flight control malfunctions, and has specific policies. I doubt they're strictly complied with, but posting pics on SM was pretty dumb under the circumstances.

Pro tip: Whatever the company or regulatory hot topic of the week is, avoid it scrupulously.

I flew an airplane which was subject to liquid-induced autopilot shenanigans... didn't help that the recessed pressure gauge adjacent to the FCP just begged to be used as a coffee holder.

Loss of Comms has been experienced because of inadvertent liquid spillage while using the pedestal as a coffee table. The majority of operators, many years ago, put out a Read File stating to avoid damage to the NAV/COM TXP and other controls within the pedestal… coffee, tea containers must be covered… handed to each crewmember over their shoulders next to their respective side windows This language was included in Company Manuals too.

I doubt the two will be fired, but counseled… end of story.

A former ACMI that I worked for considered spilling drinks on the center console a fire-able offense. So, guess what? We didn't place drink on or pass drinks over it. I had no problem that policy. I think pilots are way too cavalier when it comes to this. Why risk a self-induced problem with an unknown but potentially serious outcome? It's an easy thing to avoid - just takes a little discipline.

Exactly. Someone I know inadvertently depressurized the aircraft because they spilled a cup of liquid on the pressurization panel because they had sat their cup on the "perfectly recessed" gauge.

Very little sympathy for these guys. The "SA Low" light was on. How many times does this kind of thing need to happen until folks figure out there is no upside to putting your personal sh!t on whatever social media site is available. The "look at me" generation is going to continue to screw up their lives because they can't resist posting stuff that should never see the light of day.

As an aside what are the levers being used to hold the coffee cup? I can't see them clearly. Edit: I think I read a "CUTOFF" on there. Are they using the fuel control switches to support food?
