Air India's Russian divert?
I am guessing this is the first divert to Russia since the sanctions started? It is going to be interesting to see what happens and how they get their airplane out of there.

The flight was operating in Russian airspace; unlike other nations, India still maintains relations with Russia, and still operates in their airspace. They shouldn't have any difficulty getting the aircraft out of Russia.

I would guess the sanctions will be problematic?
No support from GE or Boeing. They have to find a way to get the replacement engine there and the tooling also. It would be interesting if the plane and or engines were being leased? That is assuming it needs a replacement engine.

And Aeroflot operates 777's too. I'm sure they can work something out one way or another.

It's the responsibility of Air India to take care of their aircraft and passengers.
We do bot have sanctions directed at India. Air India already dispatched an aircraft to pick up and move the passengers from Magadan to San Fransisco. There were reported to be some 50 US citizens on board.
Air India reported that it sent mechanics and parts to Magadan to address the oil pressure issue on the divert aircraft.

People tend to forget that although a majority of the worlds governments have condemned Russia over the invasion those governments do not represent a majority of the worlds population, in part because three of the most populous nations - Brazil, India, and China - have not condemned Russia. Similarly, many African countries dependent on Russia for grain and fertilizer are trying to stay neutral as well.
Even Hungary and Turkey are trying to keep a foot in each camp.
