Quote: Don't push forward on the yoke. It's been jet flying 101 for decades.
It's been any airplane flying, ever, and it applies to piper cubs through Boeing 747's.

The airliner with the highest loss rate of any ever built is the MD11, and overwhelmingly stem from pilot-induced oscillation (PIO), typically starting with a bounced landing.

There are many moments in aviation in which one time is too many, and one does not get a second shot.

Quote: Landing nose gear first is/was the threat. Tracking straight they're supposed to take 600 FPM at max landing weight. Lighter than MLW and the acceptable sink rate gets even higher. Crab/drift or side loading reduces the limits.
Actually, the 747 wing gear and body gear are much more robust than that.

They are designed and tested to take 600fpm at max TAKEOFF weight (less 1% IIRC), and they are supposed to take it with a pitch and bank that results in the whole load being absorbed by one wing gear, or pair of body gear.

Quote: Ever been in a car wreck? Accidentally break a glass? Trip & fall on your ass? We all have our hamfisted moments in life. Maybe this guy truly has no business in an airplane or maybe he just had a bad day. Hell, who knows, maybe he had a sneezing fit in the flare. All we can surmise from that clip is that it was mildly entertaining to watch (in a watching people take shots to the groin kinda way), and that the 74 is a pretty tough airplane. No need to drag someone you don’t know’s entire career through the mud over it.
There'd be no expectation of damage because the sink rate wasn't that great *and* they didn't land nose gear first. But boy oh boy they certainly came close. Late flare firm touchdowns happen. Oh well. Been there done that as has every other pilot. Bad flying afterwards is when it gets ugly. What's the SOP say? Don't do what this guy did.

The video is also a great demonstration on how PACS saves a tailstrike.
