No one isn't saying that they shouldn't have evacuated

It may be the camera angle but it appears the right rear door may have only partially opened. I hope Boeing gives a statement shortly on how they caused that!

The debate is "expedited deplaning" via the jetway vs. "evacuation" via the slides.

Even without smoke in the cabin, it might be sketchy to direct the pax to exit via L1 and the jetway with a known significant fire in the noise. Especially given limited info from outside the airplane and lack of CFR.

You can see from the video that once people got on the ground, it was chaos. There's a lot of vehicles and airplanes moving that those people are not and the ground crew are not used to. Not too mention the injury potential of jumping from the door or falling from the wing.

I don't know what was going on in the cabin nor does anyone here at this point. But I do think a slide evacuation should be avoided at all cost if the 1L door is connected unless there was smoke in the cabin or there was fire near fuel sources.

I mean, it’s easy to say that from the perspective of hindsight now. But I think this crew made the right call. They had limited info to go off of and had to act quick. They chose to go with the decision to evacuate via the slides. We don’t have all day to assess all of our options when it comes to smoke/fire on an airplane or whether we should even be evacuating or not. I’d imagine from the pilots’ perspectives, they saw smoke coming up from what appears to be right underneath them. So instinctively they didn’t want people coming up towards the front of the aircraft as they couldn’t pinpoint the source of the smoke, didn’t know how bad the fire was, how big it was, and how fast it was spreading. Sure the jetbridge would have been better and more convenient and safer, in hindsight.

can’t believe not a single person outside that aircraft thought to grab a fire extinguisher. Also, check out the first 2 people that came out the overwing exit…. Looks like they took a little detour.

What no call for investigation on Airbus? I'm shocked.
