Exactly. And if the first few people trying to get off in the fwd galley pass out due to fumes, they then pile up and block the exit for everyone else possibly trapping dozens making the problem that much worse. Whenever the smoke and flames are, move the opposite direction.

they made the right call
Fire/smoke/fumes in the front of the airplane. Not our job to worry about people getting hurt on the slide when the plane is actively on fire. I would imagine that the smoke was coming up through the floor of the flight deck…….out you go

Smoke and fire, yes evacuate immediately. Too many unknowns.
Our relatively new guidance is for the flight crew to call for the evacution and FA's determine the exit path.

Delta had a 727 years ago in SLC catch fire. They had pre boarded a elderly couple in coach and about half a dozen passengers in first. The SO was the only pilot onboard. He heard a pop and smelled smoke. Smoke was visible in the forward galley. He told the flight attendants to evacuate and went to the cockpit to grab a fire extinguisher. On his return to the galley flames were curling up the sidewalls to the ceiling. He gave up on the fire extinguisher idea and started to exit the jetway when he noticed the ederly couple still sitting in coach. They had been left. He went back and told them to get out the aft airstair. He turned back around to see if other passengers had been left as black smoke reached him. He inhaled once and was almost incapacitated. It knocked him right to his knees. He barely managed to roll out a overwing exit.

So I guess the Air France crash was not Airbus fault either? OrEgypt Air 804? Interesting they get a pass?

At this point there's no indication that airbus "caused" this. Have to wait for the NTSB prelim at the very least. Could have been faulty ground equipment, poorly maintained, abused, used improperly. Too early to speculate on that.

I believe the posters are alluding to the media feeding frenzy to cite all-things-Boeing every time a 737 hiccups or a lav runs dry, and are wondering why the same dosn't apply to the airbus.

All in good time.

A fairly slow, lazy evacuation, disorganized outside the aircraft, with what appears to be a delayed response by ground suppport. Hard to say without real time and information. It appears everyone got out, no one got hurt, and the fire or arcing was contained. That's how it's supposed to work.

Neither does wheels falling off a Boeing that has been is service over 15 years, or 737 engine cowling coming off either. But that does stop the so called experts on here.

Clearly you are unaware that a Boeing aircraft used that gate prior to the incident. The accident investigation is focusing on what damage the Boeing did to the external power unit.
