Default Bangor Challenger crash

CL-600, 8 souls, reportedly a fuel stop from Houston to Paris. Light snow before takeoff.

Flipped and exploded on takeoff.

Sad. RIP.

Been a few months since I was last there, but wasn’t runway shortened quite a bit with construction?

Nothing mentioned yet in news about deicing either… the PMs last words on t/o roll could be taken a few ways… hopefully it was regarding airfield lighting. Very sad.

That clean, super-critical wing is very sensitive to any contamination (us CRJ200 drivers all know that). If you rotate it through critical AoA a localized stall can quickly move spanwise and most of the wing stops flying.

Sounds like they did de-ice, and maybe anti-ice, ten minutes before TO. Given the reported conditions (-SN) type-I only seems like it would have been pretty marginal, HOT might have been closer to 5 minutes (looking at generic tables). It was very cold, which drops T-I HOT well below the ten-ish minutes we're all used to.

Maybe it wasn't applied properly, or the fluid not mixed properly. But the people in BGR should know what they're doing with that. Unlike some hubs I can think of

Ground & iceman audio from start to finish...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip5l8WIkcO0

N10KJ did request type I & IV, didn't hear if they actually got both.

Allegiant's anti-ice failed... they said whatever was blowing around at the end of the runway was sticking like crazy.

Allegiant also asked for a phone number after the crash, possible implication that he had observed something which he wanted to share.

Capt Steve got it right - the sound of ice pellets falling on the windscreen and cockpit. Heard it many times. They iced up, and it sounded like it was heavy.
