Classic translation. Glad the pilots are alive.

Follow-up - Ahmed Alihutan:

The spokesman for the General Authority of Civil Aviation that the pilot made a distress call before landing on the secondary runway at the airport where he started the fire in the cargo area inside the plane is unclear why.

See, once again they find a way to blame it on pilot error. Why did he start a fire in the cargo area?

Good job guys!

The plane was on fire and they landed in relatively one piece! Last thing on my mind if I'm on fire is making a perfect landing!

Now not to speculate but the crew was taken to the hospital afterwards with what I'd imagine to be smoke inhalation. As long as they didn't get burned it's a great outcome!

Okay, so this would be amazing:

""The plane was close to the airport when it caught fire," al-Hamoud said. "Its engines stopped working, then it crashed and split into two halves.""

The engines had quit working...and they got it on the ground? Good job.

Hoping the crew is relatively unharmed. Hell of a job getting her down to the ground with the engines out. Hopefully we won't have to talk about another MD11 crash anytime soon, they seem to happen all too often though.

Eye witnesses named al-Hamoud are notoriously unreliable. Ask any safety guy.

The discussion should be about inflight fires and haz material, not the type airplane it was on. Only some of us fly MD-11's, we all fly freight! (Pax operators included! )
