The ATC 'desk chatter' b/t the two controllers after WN 812 declares an emergency and an emergency descent is interesting (ATC 1, talking to WN 812, and ATC 2, who appears to control the airspace below):

ATC 1: He'd like 10,000', can you approve that?
ATC 2: Ahhh . . .
ATC 1: He's doing it anyway!
ATC 2: Yes, approved.
ATC 1 [transmitting to WN 812]: Descending to 10,000.

Even in an emergency, ATC is still following procedure, requesting and getting approval for a descent from the next sector before issuing a clearance to descend, even if the approval is a forgone conclusion.

Stick to established procedure as much as possible, while improvising a touch to the situation you're dealt - something that is easily forgotten when the adrenaline is flowing in a real emergency. Good lesson, with a touch of humor to boot.

On an even more interesting note. Yuma? Thought that was a made up place. You know, Nick Papagiorgio from Yuma? Vegas Vacation.
