Thinking wing is on fire, passenger tries to open exit on Delta jet | The Salt Lake Tribune

Are there more of these types of incidents in the past few years or has reporting just increased?

I wonder what caused the door to malfunction. That almost seems more concerning...

I guess the only thing worse than trying to recover from a 50 day drinking binge... Is trying to do it on an airplane. Then getting your butt kicked by an ex police officer lady, then getting arrested, then getting federal charges filed on you, then having to sober up in jail, with a "celly" named Bubba who thinks you're cute.

Heres an idea. A drunk A-Hole, if he thought the wing was on fire what makes you think that he could open a door.

In the pre-internet era, you probably wouldn't be reading the Salt Lake Tribune unless you lived in Utah. Likely just more awareness of relatively minor news stories.

There is a nice documentary starring Captain Kirk on this common phenomenon.

Agreed with above, wonder what was the door malfunction?

BOTH! In this age where everyone has a cellphone camera---and they're not afraid to use it---we get to see everything (like it or not). Also, society has broken down and more people behave badly in public and of course, alcohol just adds fuel to the fire.

Is is possible the aircraft wasn't completely depressurized since this appears to have happened just after landing? I can't remember the 757 systems but my current aircraft doesn't depressurize until slats are retracted after landing.
