Dumb things the news said today...
1. Probably a micro burst.
2. Probably because the winds were from the west and they were taking off of runway 28.
3. Probably because the Captain was Allowing the F/O to fly so that he could build "Pilot in Charge" time.
4. Do you think it was because of Pilot Error.....
What do you have?

Most importantly, different time of the year! There were sigmets that day in January about extreme cold air mass in BA's route, they were watching the bulk fuel temperature that day closely during the flight because of it. This particular flight was not exposed anywhere near the low temperature that BA's flight did.

Did no one listen to the ATC tape??... they had declared an emergency, were asking tower about emergency equipment and obviously had their oxygen masks on. Tower sent around several other arrivals to clear the way for them.

>They approached from the southwest due to possible "wind shears"
>7 knots of wind is enough to cause the nose to rise on landing
>The airplane was descending at a 45* angle
>A heavy aircraft is anything bigger than a 757. But a 767 is not a heavy aircraft.
>"Is it too early to believe this was pilot error?" (Asking former NTSB investigator)
I had to shut the TV off.

> Tail fell off on approach
> Aircraft rolled upside down
> That must be why we see damage on the roof
Turned off TV....
Finally, Fox New's "transcript" of the ATC recording will make you cry. Watch this at your own risk and don't take it out on your computer.

I just heard Mary Schiavo former DOT sec general. OMG she is far too stupid to have had any credibility as a spokesman for the airline industry. On the other hand, John Nance, former Alaska pilot didn't embarrass himself or us.
