I hope they dont rely on an ILS G/S everytime they fly!

My speculation is mis-calculated slower landing speeds with the autopilot coupled to the faulty glide slope, possibly autoland gone wrong?
I'm just glad to see survivors and the fact the United 747 abeam 28L didn't get affected.

United crew that was holding short of 28L had a front row seat. UAL needed a few more minutes and was told to hold short of 28L. I missed that connection initially!

What are you basing such speculation on? Pretty sure the 777 calculates the approach speeds for you, so that's probably out. G/S was NOTAMed out, so unlikely they would try to use it for autoland. Even if they tried, there'd be enough bells and whistles well prior to the overrun to let them know that it was a bad idea.
