Default Flight Express Cessna down

Seems the pilot is in stable, but not life threatening, condition. Landed on the edge of KTPA. TPD helo heard distress call and landed next to the bird and extracted the pilot. Link includes video from chopper of landing and the helo crew member pulling the pilot out. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Must really love to fly If 58 and flying freight at midnight in a Cessna. Not me.

I think that right there was quite a heroic decision. He made the decision to land that chopper as soon as he knew what was happening and stuck to it. Looked like he extracted the pilot before any rescue crews got there. Who knows what could have happened had they not landed then.

30 feet to the runway according to the article... if he had just made it another 7 feet judging by the plane length he would have hit flat instead of an uphill berm -- that plane stopped really quickly and gear appears collapsed. Still props to him for not trying to stretch the glide and stalling or worse.

Nice quick thinking, reasonable, rapid, and safe actions by the police aiding the pilot. Should be shown as training video. Great job, guys.

More video of the crash and interview. The reporter is kind of annoying.
