Looks like Boeings containment system worked.

Basically they never fixed the battery problem, they just contained it in a vented steel box. The whole package now weighs as much or more than an equivalent tried and true NiCd that has powered every other jetliner in the sky for decades with no problems. Probably it costs 10x as much, to boot.

When a clean sheet plane is delivered to customers 5 years ahead of schedule, a few gremlins are bound to happen.

From a SC Boeing engineer: $100,000 per battery now.
