VIRGINIA BEACH -- An F/A-18E single-seat hornet pilot was recovered safely after ejecting from his aircraft during a training mission off the Virginia Beach coast Wednesday.
The pilot was recovered by a fishing vessel, officials said. The pilot was conscious when he was recovered.
The jet is part of Oceana-based VFA-143 squadron attached to Carrier Air Wing 7.
The USCG says they were called around 2:30 p.m. to look for Navy aircraft debris about 45 miles from Virginia Beach.
USCG Cutter Albacore and Elm were heading to the scene, officials said.
