It's related to the AOA and yes there is a memory item. Not sure if the AD has been complied with fleet wide. Affects aircraft that have conical base for AOA if I recall.

Latest is NO mayday was received from flight deck. Emergency was declared by ATC. It made a steady descent from FL380 and flew into the mountains.

Rapid D? Or this AOA thing? But no mayday. That's just weird.

If you see your low speed tape shoot upwards which then results in the plane nosing over, hit two of the three.

This procedure was in response to a German A321 having something like this occur. Not sure when.
In this scenario if the pilots were to do nothing, or just try to fight it by pulling back on the stick but not turning off the computers, would the airplane continue to just dive? Im not trying to be wolf blitzer here this is just the first thing I thought of when I read about this accident.

Yes. The nose down command can exceed the authority of the stick commands as the aircraft senses (falsely) the it is exceeding MAX AOA.

Wonder how long it will take them to fix this small "glitch".

Do any professional pilots remember how investigations work? Trained safety inspectors will reconstruct the profile using all available data: as it relates to the accident aircraft. Yes, that will take time.

To those trying to find the cause this accident based on CNN reports, you're embarrising yourselves. The only thing for certain is CNN's Mariano Castillo, Laura Akhoun, Stephanie Halasz, Lindsay Isaac, Josh Levs and Richard Greene are as clueless about aviation today as they were yesterday. Please guys, don't let your professional credibility and integrity be biased by the cable news Infotainment machine.

Were actually doing it in the simulator.
OEB is pretty clear on what to do.

It is just an idiosyncrasy, not glitch... Another waiting game begins for the recovery of the fdr. Thoughts and prayers go to the families of those affected.

This should auto-post after every incident/accident thread.
