Plane skids off runway due to high winds at Buffalo airport - UPI.com

BUFFALO, N.Y., June 8 (UPI) -- A United Airlines plane skidded off an airport runway in Buffalo, N.Y., soon after it landed apparently due to high winds late Sunday.
There were 69 passengers and four crew members aboard United Express flight 3796, operated by Mesa Airlines, traveling from Virginia to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
The plane landed up to 400 feet inside a 1,000-foot "safety area" filled with grass, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman C. Douglas Hartmayer told The Buffalo News.
Authorities were working on getting the plane out of the grassy safety area as of Monday morning.
The plane reached the airport at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday after encountering "some high winds," United Airlines spokeswoman Jennifer Dohm told NBC News.
"We got folks off the aircraft and into buses and to the terminal," Dohm said. No injuries were reported.
The airport is expected to operate as normal on Monday.
