Default FlyDubai 737 crash in Russia

Unfortunate news of a 737 crash in Russia - according to story, flight from Dubai to Rostov-on-Don. Not much info, but the report is 55 people died - RIP.

Holy cow, flyDuabi. I applied there in 2011. Very sad to hear

Lotta expat pilots. Knew a couple that went there, will try and get in touch.

They held for 2hrs after a missed approach before this 2nd attempt.
Bad visibility and winds in excess of 90kph.

A very sad day for UAE aviation. May the crew and passengers RIP

The obvious question is, how bad was the wx & winds? What was their 'alternate' plan if they couldn't get in safely? Then what became of the decision to NOT go elsewhere? That is, if the weather wasn't cooperating.

If one wants specifics, let's run the crosswind limitations against the conditions at the airport.

Sad event indeed.

Shooting an approach to RWY 22, Wind 230 peak gust to about 40MPH. Lost it on the go-around.

Looking the video, it seems that the aircraft was on fire before it hit the ground. Anybody else see that?

I didn't see a fire, but I think this is a case of being too slow, too low.(gust factor/windshear) They could have also lost an engine in the go around, which the cross wind would contribute to loss of control.

Looks like an IR camera. Aircraft lighting probably creating the glow on the airplane that looks like flames.
