Don't know, but several things are troubling, if they turn out to be true, like holding for 2hrs vs. going to alternate/origin.

This (insert appropriate description) really needs to re-think his personal beliefs and motives to teach. CFI....Really???

The day you lose a friend in an aviation mishap is then the day the definition of a "tragedy" will finally hit home, (as most of us unfortunately have already experienced that day).

My condolences go out the crew, pax and their families of Flt 981.

Again, ATC audio seems to indicate little crosswind. Possible mishandled go around, got slow and stall. Turbulence or shear zone produces decreasing headwind or steep bank angle aggravating stall ?

Appearance of fire due to steep nose down pitch attitude resulting in compressor stall(s) ?

Boy, ain't THAT the truth!? It happened to me within a little over a year in the industry. Awful, awful feeling I don't wish on my worst enemy. The emotions still sting 7 years later.

The aircraft was fully loaded with tanker fuel on departure. 20.3 tons.
Aerotimes says something about low level jet stream. I've never heard of that before...

Ok, so you don't know. Just curious how long should an airliner be allowed to hold and wait for the WX to improve?

Somehow DFW and micro-burst come to mind.

They are allowed to hold for the duration of their holding/extra fuel.
