Question. What do folks use these days for flight cases? (not rollerboards). I'm from the era of the big box flight case for paper Jepps and giant manuals. What has worked well for people with the EFB? I know in training you get to choose a piece of luggage and am debating what way to go.

I thought Republic provided you with luggage? I planned to go with whatever is issued to me. If there is a better option out there, I may purchase it later after I get some experience and know what is good and bad.

Back to the original question, how much will Republic expect you to know out of that 200+ pages study guide before you show?

I thought you get to choose one piece of luggage, but I could be wrong. I'm debating between a rollerboard (carry-on) and whatever they use now for the EFB, etc. They also have two other pieces to choose from I believe (including a lunch bag...but no..) and now in lieu of all of those you can get a 3-in-1 jacket/coat. It's a pick and choose, not everything. Please correct me if I'm wrong, someone.

I bought a luggageworks lunch box a few years ago and last year ordered the flight bag from luggageworks through the company. The lunch box has plenty of room for the EFB and all other required items while the flight bag has a ton of room for everything and then some and is pretty cumbersome for commuting. I like to bring at least snacks with me (normally bring food I need to keep cold too) so my flight bag has been sitting in my closet for almost a year. I've considered buying a small cooler to fit in the flight bag but haven't because I don't have a need for all the extra room. If you ever find yourself doing 2-3 day trips the small rollerboard the company offers is pretty nice as well...

The first two weeks are company indoc. It will cover applicable part 61, 91, and 121 regulations, along with company SOPs.

The study guide is to give you a leg up on your systems oral, which I believe happens aroubd week 5-6. Don't drive yourself into a frenzy trying to memorize the study guide by your start date, but don't ignore it, either.

What brand is the luggage?
Travelpro?

Also, if you decide not to take the luggage, do they imburse you for it?

You’re not gonna get anything better than what they offer. When I went through training they gave us the heavy metal luggage works roller and the accompanying EFB rolling bag. Expensive stuff. Not sure what they’ve gone to now but I think it’s the plastic version which is just as durable it seems. At my 1 year anniversary I got the luggage works cube, and it is big enough to hold basically all you need in the flight deck, but small enough to fit in the bag area to right of your seat.

You are not expected to know anything from the study guide when you show up, but the more you familiarize yourself with it the easier it will be down the road.

Every pilot is provided with the 22" stealth series Luggage Works bag and your choice of a +1 - either the EFB bag (what I went with), a smaller bag they call the Flight Cube, a lunch cooler, or a smaller "2 day" rollerboard bag.

Thanks for the advice. A couple other questions, is it helpful to go through an ATP test prep like Dauntless or Shepperdair before CPT (I assume CPT is in house?) and how long before the start of training do they send you info on where are you training and your accommodations?
