About to make the jump from Std to TRS. Expecting it will be painful.
We have had UHC through my company and TRS as a secondary. TRS has been - transparent. When my wife calls them for her very odd/demanding (leukemia) meds, etc - it's no issue. They are secondary, but in many cases we have the Drs send scripts to Tricare only due to cost. 1 med through UHC with TRS as secondary is $125 copay. (7k without) - TRS only? $0. Yes. $0.

If you can get a lower plan through your company and TRS as secondary it's a good deal - assuming you will save $ overall - we do.

Tricare Standard.
Didn't make the switch until three years ago, and ever since I have wondered what took me so long. The service upgrade that my family gets just by not having to fight through the base hospital is staggering.

Quote: If you are having trouble getting an appointment, be the squeaky wheel. Write down specific examples, days, times, situations, and appeal to tricare for an off base PCM. When they deny it (and they will), go show up in person with your letter in hand and ask to speak to the clinic HMFIC. That is how I got my whole family off base.
I started today trying to get them to switch me over to a civilian PCM but I can tell it's going to be a pain. I'll give it a week or two then I'm switching back to standard. My medication will max out the $1k annual out of pocket but I don't care anymore. It's not worth the hassle.

How do you get Tricare Standard to be primary for prescriptions when you have Other Health Care(OTH)? We had a similar situation and Tricare told us it was in the law that you had to file with your primary insurance first and then let Tricare pick up the copays and deductibles, up to the Tricare allowed amount. Once we did it this way, it was not a problem.

As far as I can tell, you don't. Tricare is always secondary if you have OHI.
