After a long day of working, the last thing I want to do is worry about booking a hotel and getting there. I like it that its all arranged for me and all I have to do is shuffle to the pick up spot. Even better are certain international locations where a representative from the hotel is there waiting for you to lead you to transportation. (Bogotá, elsewhere).

What I can't stand are hotels that are a long drive away, ESPECAILLY in stop and go traffic.

Also, there is no place like home. Its fine the first couple times at a new city, but then who cares.

I doubt that the dude who wants to book his own hotels would like it very long. An airline the size of SWA has leverage with large hotel corporations like Marriott and Hilton and IHG. They're not paying the same rates a walkup would pay. Thousands of rooms per month = discounted rates and likely large discounts.

A couple thoughts.

The hotels here are better than when I was at a regional airline. Not massively better, but better in general. Some are literally the same property. Others are actually way better than I used to have in the same city. Generally few complaints.

Serious question: Why do we not have a hotel committee? I honestly don't know the answer. Is there an agreement between the company and SWAPA to not have SWAPA involved in hotels?

I don’t know. They might find a snoring pilot rather scintillating.

Quote: To be fair, the list for the bottom needs to be more than 3 and that is not counting getting to a layover and they do not have a hotel for you . Make matters worse the hotel desk is to busy to answer the phone or just get a blowoff from them .

Do not forget your own hotel committee said you’re at work to work, your not on vacation or to have a good time .
Thats because the hotel committee works for SWA not the crew. The CAB is useless!

I 100% agree we need a Union hotel committee but they did have a few home runs before Covid. The Marriott East Side, the Belmont, the Grand America, the Wyndham Grand in da' Burgh, the waterfront hotels in BOS, Intercontinental in SJU, Aruba, the Dominican Republic, Liberia... etc.

If they get rid of the guy who sourced the SMF PM hotel they're really not doing so badly.

All that said, the union should have a rep with veto power on the CAB.

PUJ - Best RON I’ve had by a long shot
Grand American SLC - may be the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
Marriott East Side, SAN, MKE Pfister all good.
I usually forget the bad ones until we roll up.

SWAPA used to make decisions regarding our hotels along with the FAs. There was apparently a guy on the committee that was abusing the trip pull or something to that effect (can’t recall exactly.). A ****ing match ensued internally, and we (SWAPA) stopped contributing funds. We now have a company-run committee.

LIM - Excellent hotel but that van ride can be brutal, once had a FA hurl at the curb after a 1hr 15m ride in stop and go to then operate a red eye.

Sure are a lot of doily loving grandmas here that like the Salt Lake overnight. That place is like the set of the golden girls.

Yeah, but just down the street is Curry Fried Chicken, which is heaven on a plate! Seriously good food; I look forward to it every time I go.
