Is SKYW concerned that since they really have nothing but an under performing non union contract to offer pilots...and zero upward flow...that hiring pilots may be difficult?

Hopefully it encourages them to follow suit and add some more perks… right??

I have never really understood everyone’s concern about not having a flow. Earn your hours and go get hired. Flows are not needed. What is needed is better QoL and better pay. That’s what matters…not flow.

How long have you been in the business?

Yup, most probationary pilot post ever. Have you even passed IOE?! What you’re going to learn in this industry is one screw up will hold you back 3-5 years. When I mean screw up I mean having tower give you a phone number because the person left of you made an early turn on a taxi way while you have your head down running an after landing follow, petty speeding ticket within the last year or two, or failing a PRIA event. Thankfully I’ll get out clean, but anything can happen. There is a lot of luck in this industry. Hiring comes and goes every few years, you make one mistake at an unfortunate moment you’re stuck then boom the hiring stops. You’re hearing about 25 year olds with a 4.0 GPA’s being called with zero PIC and thinking you’re just going to walk in and walk out. The confidence will deteriorate after a few years when you realize it’s not that easy. We may see a hiring freeze in a few weeks if things escalate in Ukraine.

If anyone could get a flow done with multiple partners it would be SkyWest. This guaranteed interview was in their back pocket for a while, you could tell they were holding it only to realize how bad the attrition was getting and whipped it up so fast they still don’t know the details.

Nope, admittedly I'm new. But I still stand by my statement that flow is not worth much, if anything at all. Putting aside the idea of screwing up and making yourself less attractive to get hired, I am of the opinion that a good pilot putting in the effort can get hired quicker than waiting around for flow. And even though I'm a noob, I still believe that pay and QoL are better than sitting on your hands waiting for flow to move you to the big leagues.

Nobody is sitting around waiting for a flow, unless it’s something comparable to what the GPI is, which is 2 years in the left seat. That would make me think long and hard leaving for a low cost carrier. My goal isn’t Spirit, but it’s an obvious upgrade and at least I can start paying off my students loans with a good retirement fund.

Like I said you’re new. SkyWest isn’t having attrition issue with legacy hiring, they’re having issues with LCC and legacy hiring combined. It’s too much attrition to keep up.

Oh and a week ago SouthWest announcement had them hiring 1370 pilots in 2022. So they’ve joined the party.

You do realize attrition not being controlled will have you on the street right? It’s a compounding effect, you start losing so many pilots senior pilots get nervous and start updating their apps. That’s literally happening as we speak and it’s exactly why SkyWest management got caught off guard with these massive attrition numbers. What makes matters even worse is when they come out with an insulting GPI program and oh btw “we’re cutting 15% of the flying because all of our Captains are leaving”.

One of the more ignorant posts I’ve read in a while here. You’re in for a rude awakening.

You guys are funny. So you're telling me that Flow trumps Pay or QoL?
