There are enough slots to have all captains remain captains.

Speaking of realignments and displacements - what is the advantage for the 727 pilots to be displaced vs. realigning themselves?

Realignment..there needs to be an open slot
Displacement..you just need to be senior to the junior guy and you can kick him out if there are no open slots

That's what I thought, but why wouldn't you just put in a bid in for what you want if there is a slot open and if you don't get it on the realignment, wouldn't you just be able to get it on the displacement?

I also believe there is no seat lock on a displacement, but I could be wrong.

You can move to any seat you can hold (even if there is no spot available - the bottom guy then also gets displaced.) There is no seat lock. AND if you change domiciles you get a better moving package.

That is true, or rather WAS true. There were 54 CAPTs to be displaced and 54 places for these CAPTs to go. What we see right now are some F/O that have been awarded an available CAPT slot that will ulimately go to one of the CAPTs that is to be displaced. There is a net of zero (0) new captain slots in this bid. So it only makes sence that the most junior CAPT, when this is all said and done, will be close to the most junior CAPT on property right now. Maybe even more senior as a few senior F/Os take the opertunity to upgrade. All I'm really trying to say is that what you see right now is meaningless. The rest of the 727 CAPTs (43) will choose a new place to go and the excess crews will be displaced to somewhere else. Hope this makes sense.

I quit ups in April of 2000 after 10 years. Couldn't take anymore of their crap and the lifestyle. I have been told by friends that are still there that things are still as bad, if not worse as far as the company since I left....is that true?

I got hired at UPS in 2005 and worked 7 days last month. I can put up with a lot of B.S. for that schedule! I'm thinking of starting my own business soon.

Some people will complain no matter what their situation is! (I don't mean you, crgok9).
