Just go to the regionals, get as much PIC and LCA experience as you can. If you must go to another carrier, long haul cargo/ACMI.

Anyone pondering this question should seriously consider what they really want from their aviation career. Fedex is a good employer with a good track record of not getting too banged up during economic downturns. We came through 9/11 mostly unscathed and were lucky that the postal contract had come on just before that time.

Flying for a Fedex feeder is going to provide the same basic experiences as the mainline, ie; night hub turns, relaxed ATC experiences, and less hours, but with the lower pay and bennies of a regional. As noted in another post, you will get more hours quicker at a regional (working harder for it), you will work predominantly daylight hours and (something even we at mainline don't get) decent online travel benefits. One other consideration, if you are looking at the feeder as a stepping stone, research how competitive you would be at legacy airlines vs regional guys and how soon you would be considered as such.

If Fedex is really offering a true path to employment like AA seems to be offering, than I'd say, "Go Purple" if that's really what you want to do. If all they are offering is an inside track to an interview, I think there are better options in the industry for a low timer looking beyond their initial flight training.
